Biography
Muhammad Bakr Abdelghany(Senior, IEEE) received a B.Sc. degree in Computer and Systems Engineering and an M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering, Minia University, Minia, Egypt, in 2010 and 2015, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Systems and Control Engineering from the University of Sannio, Italy, in 2022. In 2010, he served as a Teaching Assistant with the Department of Computer and Systems Engineering at Minia University, Egypt. He is currently with Khalifa University of Science and Technology (Assistant Professor) and on leave from Minia University (Assistant Professor). His research interests include control synthesis, cyber-physical systems, computer-controlled systems, green hydrogen production, renewable energy systems, and embedded systems. His research has significantly impacted the hydrogen, energy, control systems, and automation research communities, as evidenced by approximately 1500 citations and an h-index of 22. Dr. Abdelghany has mentored/co-supervised 15 Ph.D. /Master’s students. He reviews various reputable journals, including the IEEE Control Systems Society, the IEEE Power and Energy Society, and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. He is also a guest editor for a special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications on control applications in hydrogen energy systems. He was honored with prestigious academic awards, including Outstanding Reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy in 2023 and for IEEE Transactions on Network Science and Engineering in 2024, as well as the 2025 Best Paper Award from IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, the highest scholarly distinction conferred by one of IEEE’s most selective Transactions, awarded following an intensive five-round review and evaluation process. Furthermore, he was honored with prestigious academic awards, including the Best Paper Award at the IEEE Industrial Electronics and Applications Conference (IEACon) and the Best Paper Award at the IEEE IAS Annual Meeting in 2024. Dr. Abdelghany is a senior researcher on several international projects.
