A regional Italian research programme connecting advanced control with hybrid domestic energy systems.

Scope

NanoCog was an applied research collaboration applying advanced control to hybrid domestic energy systems that coordinate electrical and thermal production, storage, and demand.

Objective

Its hardware-and-software controller combined renewable and conventional generation to reduce fuel consumption and emissions while balancing local resources against electrical and thermal demand, including operation for an isolated home without utility electricity or gas connections.

My contribution

I participated as a member of the University of Sannio project team from January 2018 to August 2020 under the supervision of Professor Luigi Glielmo.

Project record

The experimental installation combines electrical control, battery storage, heat pumps, and thermal storage within one hybrid domestic-energy test environment.
